People here are dedicated and passionate about supporting and collecting contemporary art; they understand its ability to reflect the society of our time. The scene here is full of energy, with over 40 commercial galleries as well as established private collections, an infrastructure of institutions and the Biennale. Collectors' Stories Features the Best of More Than 60 Collections in Turkey

Bringing together the best contemporary art works from Turkey and across the globe, Turkey’s premier international art fair Contemporary Istanbul, welcomes its 11th edition with an exciting project titled Collectors’ Stories.

Collectors' Stories is an exceptional exhibition that will showcase 120 artworks personally selected by 60 collectors from their own private collections. An innovative collaboration produced for the very first time in Turkey, the project will take place in a 1,500 m2 exhibition space at CI 2016. Curated by Contemporary Istanbul Artistic Advisor Marc-Olivier Wahler and coordinated by Contemporary Istanbul Program Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marcus Graf, the planning and execution of the exhibition will be supported by academics and students from several universities. Rethinking the contemporary aspect of private collections and the works in question, the exhibition presents a unique opportunity for collectors, art enthusiasts, curators and art professionals.

By providing an opportunity for collectors to present their individual aesthetic insights, the exhibition will also facilitate a conversation on the shifting dynamics of contemporary art tastes and how best to build an art collection, while the trends, motivations and strategies behind art purchases will be revealed. Bringing together different attitudes, preferences and collections, the project hopes to develop a shared curatorial spirit while drawing a roadmap for a new generation of art collectors. The project is significant, as the exhibited works are selected by the collectors themselves and those chosen are recently acquired pieces.
