MAHAL, the first independent and alternative art space of Çanakkale, was opened in 2013 by Çanakkale Biennial Initiative (CABININ), which has been conducting international contemporary art activities centered in Çanakkale since 2006, with its civil solidarity and production network. This former oak acorn depot on the banks of the Sarıçay River, located on the urban conservation area, offers a unique space for contemporary art with its original architecture reminiscent of the city's cultural heritage. Mahal, which functions as a multi-purpose, open space, infrastructure, and communication network for production, exhibition, and performances in various art forms from Turkey and the world, as well as civil society activities and non-profit original projects, is also a meeting point for the new generation of artists in Çanakkale.
